Information / Janitors
January 05, 2019, 10:19:33 PM
Ever find things like this?

Ugly destroyed beaches and unsightly towers made of random blocks. We don't like these things, but not many people will actually make them right.

There is a new rank/role called Janitor which is available to all Veterans. Janitors are cleaners of messes. They are people that actually want to get rid of these things, and will because that's their job. You can assist Janitors by reporting any messes you find around the world. The process of doing this is very simple, and takes only a couple seconds of your time:

When you come across a mess such as the dirt and cobblestone towers in the picture above you simply type '/mess' in chat followed by a short description of what you're looking at:

A Janitor, recognisable by their teal names

will see that someone has reported a messy area that needs cleaning.

They can teleport to that area with their appropriate cleaning supplies

and in a short while have the area back to it's natural state.

All Veterans are able to become Janitors simply by asking a staff member to make them one. It should be noted that anyone who becomes a Janitor is expected to do the work. Please do not become a Janitor just for the different name colour, as those who do not actually respond to reports will be removed from the position.

By spawn there is a Janitors' closet which houses some supplies for cleaning up messy areas, such as buckets and dirt. If you have extra supplies donating them to the Janitors' closet supply is very much appreciated.

Relevant commands:

  • /mess <description> - Report a messy area at your location with a short description.
  • /listmesses - Get a list of id's and descriptions of reported messy areas.
  • /tpmess <id> - Teleport to a messy area with given id.
  • /closemess <id> - Declare a messy area with given id cleaned.

Minecraft / 1.12 map download
September 17, 2018, 10:46:51 PM
Map from March 2016 - July 2018
FroobWorld March 2016 - July 2018.zip
FroobWorld March 2016 - July 2018 nether+end.zip
WarpsAndHomes.zip

To use the warps and homes you will need to create a spigot server on your computer. This is quite easy to do and there are many tutorials online showing exactly how to do this. Once you have it set up, place the contents of the WarpsAndHomes.zip file into your plugin folder and reload the server.

Make sure you run this on version 1.12 at least until world conversion is fixed for newer versions.

Building contest / Building contest: September
September 04, 2018, 05:08:37 PM
The theme for September's building contest is dirt. In order for your build to qualify it must use dirt as its main material. Anything which you intend to submit must be built on the server and must be built in the month of September, i.e. you can't submit anything you've already built.

To submit your build, post screenshots of it below.

Building contest / (Closed)Building contest: August
August 01, 2018, 10:39:37 PM
It's been well over a year since the last 'monthly' building contest, so it's about time for another one. FroobWorld is in dire need of jails to house all of the criminal scum, so the theme for this month is jail. Build a cool jail and you can have it set as an actual jail which will be used for rule breakers by asking a staff member. Anything which you intend to submit must be built on the server and must be built in the month of August, i.e. you can't submit anything you've already built.

To submit your build, post screenshots of it below.

Information / 1.13
July 22, 2018, 10:48:41 PM
The server is now running version 1.13 and the map has been reset.

Portals
Two maps ago we used to have many, many warps. We had over 150 in total. As much as we all loved being able to warp around anywhere, we realised this was a bit ridiculous, so it was decided for last map that we would only use warps for official things. This left us with only two warps in the end, one was for a guide for Lockette and the other was for the old spawn after we moved following an update.

What we lost with warps was a certain sense of 'fullness' to the map. Previously you could warp to a large number of fun places to explore, and in particular you could warp to a great number of player made towns. Not including the spawn towns, we had many fairly successful player made towns in the map before last, but in the last map we only had perhaps one. We want to bring back some of this feeling for the next map.

We are implementing a suggestion by Mr. TheChief13 to use portals instead of warps. Portals are very similar to warps in that they can be set anywhere, however they differ in that they cannot be used anywhere. A portal can be set in one location and linked to a portal in another location, in order to use the portal you have to stand in it for 5 seconds at which point you will be teleported to the portal it is linked to. We plan on having a central hub in Spawn Town through which all portals must go.

We plan on having very strict rules on what is allowed a portal. In essence we do not want portals to provide any sort of utility, but rather open up an opportunity to explore things which have been built by other players. We will be allowing towns which are of a certain size to have portals, given that the town is public, i.e. anyone is allowed to build there (within reason). Also allowed will be any sort of attraction, such as museums or replicas of real life buildings.

Chest locking
We've been using Lockette for chest locking for the past four years or so. However, all of the permissions for Lockette are broken and chests do not lock properly in 1.13. As a result I have made a new chest locking plugin for the server. It works almost exactly the same way as Lockette does, so hopefully it should be easy enough to use. The command to edit the lines on a protection sign is now /lock, however /lockette will also work. You are also now able to add [Friends] to your signs, which will allow all of the people on your /friend list to access whatever it is that sign is locking. This means you do not have to add each of your friends individually. If you find any problems, please use /report bug or contact me directly.

Reporting
You are now able to view reports which you have made to the staff. A list of the reports which you have made can be found by typing /myreports. And you can use /readreport to read the reports which you have made, and to view the response made by the staff member that reviewed it.

Some other changes:

  • I've completely rewritten a few of the plugins we use, so please tell me if there are issues
  • I've added tab complete to most of the commands. So as you are typing a command you will receive suggestions
  • There is a new /stafflog command for staff members to see punishment records
  • Mail now displays how old it is and player names will update when changed (old mail has been deleted, sorry)

Information / Permissions
March 30, 2018, 06:48:28 PM
The permissions plugin we use, i.e. the groups/ranks plugin, has been unsupported for a number of years now. It always causes problems when we update so I thought I would just make a new one. The change shouldn't even be noticeable if you're not staff. All of the data has been transferred over so everyone is the same rank and the chat colours are still all the same.

There are some new commands though, they are:
/setgroup <player> <group> - Set the group of <player> to <group>
/whois <player> - Tells you which group <player> is in
/listgroups - Tells you a list of the groups.

These commands are obviously only for staff use. If you forget the commands they are now displayed in /help.

If you happen to go onto the server please check if you are the same rank as before and let me know if you are not. If you are able to do any commands which you weren't able to do before, or if you are not able to do any commands you were able to do before please also let me know.

Suggestions / Spawn Town Underground Market
March 12, 2018, 07:08:09 PM
Alright. So we always end up with a bunch of shops in Spawn Town. Usually they work by placing an order in a book or on a sign, and then you have to wait for the next time the owner is on. It inevitably takes days or weeks for the owner to check their shop, if they do it at all, at which time the buyer has lost interest. Point is that shops and trading in general do not work very well.

I suggest that in 1.13 we create, underneath Spawn Town, a giant trading platform with player owned automatic shops. All shops would be exactly the same design. They are completely automatic and are made with redstone. They can take up to 63 of any stackable item and in return give up to 319 of any item. They also only take up a 6x6 block space, so we can build quite a large amount of them underneath Spawn Town.

Here's what the front of a store looks like

You place payment into the hopper on the right and the items you are after appear in the chest. The redstone lamp will shine when there are items in stock. When there are no items in stock the hopper will not accept any payment, so you can't be scammed.

I think this would be a really nice project for the community. And it would be cool to see trading between players made more feasible, and also to see a bit of an item economy happening. What do you guys think?

Minecraft / Clue hunt
July 01, 2017, 10:40:29 PM
Oh golly gee whiz there's a clue hunt in town!

Take a look in the FroobWorld event shack in Spawn Town to get started. Everyone can complete it once and claim the reward, so there's no race for first. You can do it as a team but please don't spoil it for anyone else.

Minecraft / (Over)Treasure hunt

There's a lost chest full of treasure, and all we know is that it's located within 1000 blocks of spawn. Below is an image of the search area (it is now known to be south of spawn)

The chest is thought to look something like this:

If you can find it you can keep all of the goodies which it may contain, good luck

Information / Swear filter
April 22, 2017, 11:20:39 PM
I've made the swear filter much smarter: it now checks for repeated letters and spaces or other non-alphabetical characters separating letters. If 'chief' was a swear word, for example, it would filter out 'c h i e f', 'c   hi eeeeee ee e e e f', 'c.h.i.e.f', etc.

Try it out and let me know if there are any problems with it

Projects / Proposal: Warp Sand Memorial Express
April 05, 2017, 12:42:42 AM
The FBPA (FroobWorld Beach Protection Agency) has noted an increase in the number of destroyed beaches in their monthly report. Now, this is not good. With postcards featuring beaches being the main export of FroobWorld we need to take all measures necessary to protect our beaches. On the last map we had a nifty solution to this: /warp sand, but such a solution is no longer a possibility with the current restriction on warps. And so I propose instead...

The Warp Sand Memorial Express

A 1.5km long, single lane, eastward bound railway track straight to sandy goodness. Not only will it pay homage to what was arguably the greatest warp in the server's history, but it also provides a solution to our beach problem by giving people an easy way to get a lot of sand quickly.

Building contest / (Closed)Building contest: April
April 01, 2017, 01:10:57 PM
It's been almost exactly a year since the last building contest, so it's about time we tried again. The theme for this month is bridges. So, you know, make a nice looking bridge. Anything which you intend to submit must be built on the server and must be built in the month of April, i.e. you can't submit anything you've already built.

A Guide To Cooking Truth
with froobynooby

If you're reading this you are interested in cooking your very own Truth. Truth can be quite difficult to cook for a beginner, but in this guide we will walk you through all of the steps for some of our preferred methods for cooking Truth.

Part 1 - Obtaining Truth
This is probably the most difficult step towards cooking Truth. Truth can be sneaky and elusive, and he knows when he's being watched. To have the best chance of catching a Truth you should set a Truth trap. A Truth can be trapped by digging a 2 block deep hole made of leaves with a sign saying "You're trapped" in it. The best way to lure a Truth to your trap is to have it hidden in a poorly optimized or unsymmetrical farm, which Truth will be forced to fix. Alternatively, you can throw meat towards Truth which acts as a repelling force, forcing him away from the meat and, hopefully, into your trap. Once trapped there is nothing he can do, so it is time to prepare for cooking him.
Below is an image showing a trapped Truth and the Truth repelling abilities of meat

Part 2 - Preparation
Preparation is key to successfully cooking Truth. Make sure that you have your cooking station set up before you catch Truth as Truth needs to be cooked immediately after being caught. The cooking station you require will depend on the method you are using to cook Truth, usually you can't go wrong with a nice open fire.

Part 3 - Some selected recipes

Roasted Truth
It's a classic, you just can't beat it. Roasted Truth is one of the simplest, yet one of the tastiest ways to cook Truth. All that is required is a pit fire and, of course, Truth. There's actually two ways to cook roasted Truth, one is using a spit and the other is chucking him on an open fire.
For the spit method, you're going to need a 2 meter long spit, some rope and some strong supports.
Tie Truth to the spit using the rope and prop him up onto the supports.
Allow Truth to roast for 6 hours for maximum tenderness.

Below is an example of a successful roasted Truth using the spit method

This method is much quicker, but you don't end up with the same tenderness as the spit method.
For this method you need to have Truth lie down in a pre-prepared pit with coals.
If desired, you can add some form of seasoning.
After you've done this, you're going to need to light the fire underneath Truth.
For the best results, leave to roast for 3 hours.

Below is an example of roasted Truth with watermelon, using the non-spit method

Boiled Truth
Boiled Truth is a little bit trickier to pull off than roasted Truth, but if you can pull it, it's worth it. For boiled Truth we require a cauldron and a pit fire.
First you'll want to fill your cauldron with some fresh water. Add carrots and potatoes if desired, but we generally find that Truth by itself is the best way to go.
You're going to want to bring the water in your cauldron to a boil and once it is boiling add Truth. Fortunately, because of Truth's tendency to jump into lava, he is incapable of telling temperatures and so will remain in the pot.
You're going to want to leave Truth boiling for 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how hot your water is. Now this is quite a long time, so Truth may be tempted to move. To prevent this, place meat all around the cauldron thus providing an equal repulsive force from all directions and causing Truth to be unable to leave the pot.

Below is an image of a successfully boiled Truth.

Mexican Truth
A recipe sent in by amateur Truth chef TheChief13 is Mexican Truth. It's an unconventional cooking method but it produces great results. For Mexican Truth you will need a fully functioning roller coaster which sends you through lava and a sombrero.
First you're going to want to put the sombrero on Truth, this is the key step to the entire dish.
Next you're going to want to place Truth into the roller coaster. Remember it must be a roller coaster, not just any old minecart track. This is very important.
Next simply send Truth on his way down the track, once he makes his way though the lava he will be cooked.

Below is an image of a successfully done Mexican Truth, courtesy of TheChief13

Part 4 - Get creative with your recipes
Don't shy away from experimenting with how you cook Truth. How do you think all of these recipes were discovered? I happen to know that TheChief13 tried cooking Truth in 78 different ways before discovering Mexican Truth, but did he give up? No, he didn't, and he succeeded in the end. If you find an exciting new recipe, be sure to send it in with screenshots and we might just put it in our recipe collection.

Information / 1.11
March 17, 2017, 08:51:04 PM

We've finally updated the server to version 1.11. The map has expanded northwards, it is now double the size it was before. If you want to get to the new area you can get to the new spawn by typing /spawn. If you wish to get to the old spawn you can get there by typing /warp oldspawn. Besides that, literally nothing has changed.

So, get out there and find some mansions or something.
